BREEAM

BREEAM for industrial construction

BREEAM for offices

What is BREEAM?

BREEAM is the Building Research Establishment's Environmental Assessment Method. It is the world's most widely used environmental assessment method used to describe a building's environmental performance.

A good BREEAM rating provides clients, developers and designers with market recognition of the low environmental impact of a building and the assurance that best environmental pratice has been incorporated. The process finds the most innovative solutions, helps reduce running costs and improves working and living conditions.

Credits are awarded in 10 categories on new and refurbished buildings:

  • Management of the building
  • Impacts on health and wellbeing
  • Energy use
  • Transport methods
  • Water use
  • Materials used
  • Waste disposal
  • Land use and ecology
  • Pollution

These scores are added together to give an overall measure on a scale of Pass, Good, Very Good, Excellent and Outstanding.

Why have a BREEAM assessment?

  • It demonstrates sustainabilty to planners, investors and customers
  • It reduces energy and other running costs
  • It improves staff productivity and contentment
  • It makes a building more attractive to tenants and potentially increases rental incomes
  • It pre-empts legislation and raises the bar
