It is important to find out if there is likely to be any broadband investment by commercial operators (generally BT, but also Virgin for cable) in your area. You will also want to know whether it is planned within a reasonable timeframe. It may be that the information that you collate about your community will improve the priority given by commercial operators for investing in your area. By making the case you can show that providing broadband in your area is financially viable for them.
BT will be able to tell you if broadband investment has already been agreed in your area. It is expected that this will be the case for 66% of England by 2015. Once you have a response you will be able to determine whether a community broadband scheme is the best way forward.
