WHAT IS BROADBAND?
Broadband is the name given to any fast, permanent internet connection. It can be delivered by several different means such as cable, satellite, mobile and ADSL (the most common way).
Initially to access the internet, users had to use a dial-up connection and a ‘modem.’ The modem converted signals from a computer and passed them down the telephone line. As anyone who used the dial-up connection will tell you, it could be extremely slow and it meant that your phone line was busy whenever you were on line.
The difference between the original dial-up method and broadband is the difference between a country lane and a motorway. Replace the single band with separate bands for uploading and downloading and you speed up traffic many times over. Instead of one, narrow band you get a broader band – hence the name ‘broadband’.
Why is broadband good?

It will help you whether you are a social user of the Net or are using the Net for your business.
